Let's Talk Finances

Financial planning can bring up plenty of questions. Explore answers to some of the questions we hear most often, and if there's something else on your mind, we're always happy to talk.

Your financial questions deserve thoughtful, personal answers.

Whether you're planning for retirement, building your investments, or figuring out where to start, Landon and our team are here to help you understand your options.

Have another question? We'd be glad to hear from you.

1. Do I really need a financial advisor?

You don't have to be wealthy or nearing retirement to benefit from financial advice. Whether you're building savings, preparing for retirement, or navigating a major life change, Landon and our team can help you understand your options and make informed decisions.

At LakeHaus, we believe financial planning starts with understanding what's important to you. We listen and take the time to learn about your goals, answer your questions, and help you navigate the decisions that shape your financial future.

2. How much money do I need to work with a financial advisor?

We don't require a minimum amount of investable assets to become a client. We welcome people at all stages of their financial journey, whether you're building wealth, preparing for retirement, or working through an important financial decision.

What matters most is understanding where you are today and what you want to accomplish. We'll take the time to learn about your situation and explore how our services may fit your needs, regardless of the size of your investment portfolio.

3. How do financial advisors get paid?

Financial advisors may be compensated through advisory fees, commissions, or a combination of the two, depending on the services provided and the accounts or products involved. Understanding how an advisor is paid is an important part of choosing someone to work with.

We believe you should feel comfortable asking questions and understand how compensation works before making decisions. We'll explain LakeHaus's compensation arrangements and any applicable costs so you know what to expect and can make an informed choice about working with us.

4. Am I on track for retirement, and how much money will I need?

Retirement planning involves two important questions: Are you on track, and will you have the resources to support the retirement you envision? The answers depend on your savings, expected expenses, retirement timeline, income sources, and the lifestyle you hope to enjoy.

Landon works with clients to bring these pieces together and understand how they fit into the bigger picture. Whether you envision traveling, spending more time with friends and family, or simply enjoying greater flexibility, we'll help you evaluate where you stand and identify steps to work toward your goals.

5. When should I start taking Social Security?

You can generally begin collecting Social Security retirement benefits at age 62, but claiming early typically means a smaller monthly benefit. Waiting until your Full Retirement Age will garner you 100% of your benefit and each year waited beyond your Full Retirement Age will see an additional 8% added to your monthly benefit, up until age 70.

Deciding when to claim is about more than choosing an age. Landon can help you consider how Social Security fits alongside your retirement savings, other income sources, and plans for the future. Understanding your options and the trade-offs can help you make a decision that supports your broader retirement strategy.

6. What should I do with my old 401(k) when I change jobs or retire?

Leaving a job or retiring often raises questions about what to do with an existing 401(k). Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to leave it in your former employer's plan, roll it into an eligible IRA or another employer's plan, or take a distribution. Each option has different considerations, including fees, investment choices, and potential tax consequences.

Before making a move, we can help you evaluate your options and consider how that account fits into your overall financial picture. A decision made during a job change or retirement can affect your long-term plans, so it's worth understanding the choices before taking action.

7. What happens during an initial meeting with a financial advisor?

Your first meeting is an opportunity to get acquainted, share what's on your mind, and discuss what you'd like to accomplish financially. You can ask questions, talk through concerns, and learn more about how we work. You don't need to have everything figured out or arrive with every financial document organized.

Landon's approach starts with listening and learning about you, your priorities, and what matters most in your life. From there, we can discuss where you may need support and determine whether working together feels like the right fit.

8. What is it like to work with Landon and LakeHaus Wealth Partners?

We believe a strong financial relationship is built on trust, communication, and an understanding of what matters most to you. Landon works directly with clients, while the LakeHaus team provides support that helps bring the pieces of your financial life together.

Our goal is to understand your priorities, help you evaluate your options, and work with you as your needs evolve. Rather than treating financial decisions as isolated events, we look at how they connect to your broader goals and plans for the future. We want you to feel heard, informed, and comfortable asking questions along the way.

9. What financial services can LakeHaus Wealth Partners help me with?

Financial decisions often overlap. Investment choices can affect retirement plans, insurance can help protect the people who depend on you, and changes in your life can influence your financial priorities.

We offer financial advice and services that include wealth management, financial planning, insurance planning & estate planning. By understanding your circumstances and what you're working toward, we can help you consider how these areas fit together and identify the options that make sense for your needs.

10. Do I need to live near your office to work with LakeHaus?

Not at all. While our office provides a place to meet in person, you don't need to live nearby to work with us. We offer Microsoft Teams meetings and electronic signature options for most paperwork and account-related needs, making it easier to connect and handle many tasks remotely.

Whether you're nearby or elsewhere in the United States, we want working together to be convenient and straightforward. Distance doesn't have to be a barrier to building a relationship and planning for your financial future.
